Alternanthera sessilis is an aquatic plant known by several common names, including ponnanganni (in Tamil), ponnaganti aaku (in Telugu), Mukunuwenna(in Sinhalese), sessile joyweed and dwarf copperleaf. It is used as a vegetable specially in Sri Lanka and some Asian countries.
